J55 Guitar Plans

  • General Information:

First introduced in 1939, the Gibson J55 is one of the most distinctive guitars made by Gibson. You can spot one by it's beautiful stairstep peghead, mustache bridge, long 25.4" scale, bound fingerboard, scalloped pickguard and distinctive "Gibson" Logo.

The J55 was in production for only a short time and was discontinued in 1943, with few production models ever made.

Traditional woods used for the J55 are Adirondack Spruce top and Ribbon-Cut Honduras Mahogany back and sides. Most often these guitars sport an amber to dark brown sunburst finish.

We have included all the distinctive qualities in this guitar plan so you can faithfully produce one yourself.
